28 November 2015: Store Collection - ASDA, Leechmere.

Following up on "Black Friday" we brightened up Saturday with an in-store collection at ASDA. Besides collecting and playing some great music and our volunteers were on hand to explain how to get involved at Radio Sunderland.
As usual the generous customers and welcoming staff helped to raise a magnificent £322. A big thank you goes to everyone.

5 September 2015: Store Collection - ASDA, Leechmere.

The Radio Sunderland members were at the ASDA Superstore in Grangetown. We had our music "juke box" on hand to entertain customers as they entered and left the store. We also had our collection buckets at hand into to which many people generously donated their small change.
So, it's a big thank you for your continued support and to the management and staff for once again allowing us to do some fund raising in their store.
The final total raised was a lovely £254
On behalf of the patients in the Sunderland Royal Hospital, thank you.

7 June 2015: NHS Blog on Hospital Radio.

During June as part Volunteers Week, the NHS invited the Hospital Broadcasting Association to write a blog, the result was "Music and health make for a perfect harmony" by Mel Ive.

6 June 2015: Store Collection - Morrisons, Seaburn.

It's the start of summer and we'll be out and out about at Morrisons Seaburn. As always we're fund raising to keep Radio Sunderland on the air but we're also looking for new volunteers! No experience is required so come and have a chat if you're interested!

Update: Even though it was a VERY windy day you helped us raise  £323. A big thank you to everyone that braved the wind and donated and of course, a big thanks to the staff.

28 February 2015: Store Collection - Sainsbury's Silksworth.

A New Year and we start our 2015 fundraising campaign back at Sainsbury's, Silksworth. Come along and say hello - if it's not too cold!

Update: We raised an impressive  £337, many thanks to everyone that donated and of course, a big thanks to the staff for their usual, friendly welcome!

13 December 2014: Store Collection - Morrisons, Seaburn.

It's our last store collection of 2014! We'll be at the store from 8am playing a great selection of Christmas music so come ands say hello and drop your loose change into our collecting buckets!

Update: A great day of music and generosity! Many thanks to the customers of Morrisons that helped us raise an impressive  £482!

29 November 2014: Store Collection - Sainsbury's Silksworth.

Back to Silksworth for our penultimate fundraising collection of the year. We'll be collecting to raise funds to support Radio Sunderland and we'll also be looking out for new volunteers, so come and say hello and perhaps get involved!

Update: It was a busy day in the store and we met some great people that help us raise  £477, many thanks to all the Sainsbury's staff and customers!

11 October 2014: Store Collection - ASDA, Leechmere.

As the nights draw in we start our autumn and winter fundraising with a collection at ASDA, Leechmere. Besides collecting, we'll be playing some great music and our volunteers will be on hand to tell you why you should get involved with Radio Sunderland!

Update: A quiet day but thanks to your generosity we still managed to collect  £203, many thanks to all the ASDA staff and customers!

19 July 2014: Store Collection - Morrisons, Seaburn.

Our first visit to Morrisons this year, so come and say hello if you're in the store shopping. You can also find out about Radio Sunderland and what we do, and of course, don't forget to drop your loose change in our collecting buckets!

Update: A busy day today, despite the fine weather, which helped us raise an impressive  £270.

 

12 July 2014: Store Collection - Tesco Extra, Sunderland.

Summers here (probably) and we're back at Tesco with our collecting buckets, display stand and music! If you're shopping in the store come and say hello and find out how you could join the Radio Sunderland team - no experience required!

Update: Many thanks to everyone that donated today, we raised  £170.

 

31 May 2014: Store Collection - Sainsbury's, Silksworth.

A few weeks later and we're at the other Sainsbury's store in Silksworth! As usual, we'll have our display stand telling you all about Radio Sunderland and how you can get involved and of course our members will be out and about with their collecting buckets!

Update: A good day at the store, thanks to everyone that said hello and contributed to keeping us on the air, we raised  £274.

10 May 2014: Bag Packing at Sainsbury's, Southwick.

This is a first for us! This Saturday our team will be at the new Sainsbury's store in Southwick helping to pack your bag in the hope that you'll toss some small change our way - thereby helping to keep Radio Sunderland broadcasting! We'll have our display stand too so you can find out all about Hospital Radio and how you can get involved. Hope to see you there!

Update: The sterling work of our bag-packers encouraged you to donate  £238, many thanks to you all!

5 April 2014: Store Collection - ASDA, Leechmere.

22 March 2014: Store Collection - Tesco Extra, Sunderland.

Spring has finally sprung (apparently) and so we're out and about with our first store collection of the year! We'll be playing some great music whilst raising funds to help keep us broadcasting. If you're shopping in store today, or just passing by, why not pop-in and say hello and find out more about Radio Sunderland.

Update: Today's collection raised  £161, many thanks to the management, staff and customers of Tesco for your support!

22 December 2013: Live Broadcast - Pop Recs, Sunderland.

As part of our 60th birthday celebrations and our ten day broadcast on 87.7FM, we broadacst live for two hours from Frankie and the Heartstrings Pop Recs in Fawcett Street, Sunderland.

Presenters Anthony and Laura had a great time meeting some of the band and customers, they were also kept generously supplied with copious amounts of coffee and mince pies!

We would like to say a big, big thank you to Frankie and the guys for having us and making us feel so welcome and for making it a great broadcast!

 

15 December: Store collection/Live Broadcast- Tesco Extra.

We had a great day playing Christmas music and raising funds at Tesco Extra yesterday (14th). Our collection raised an impressive  £298, many thanks to everyone that gave generously. We also broadcast live from the store on 87.7FM across Wearside as part of our 60th Birthday Celebration Broadcast.

Many thanks to the management and staff of the store for all their help and for being so accommodating on the day.

 

27 November: Broadcasting on YOUR radio!

As part of our 60th birthday celebrations Radio Sunderland will once again be broadcasting across Wearside on 87.7FM. We have a special licence from Ofcom and so from Friday 13th December until Sunday 22nd December you will be able to listen on any old wireless - in the car, at home or at work.

We hope it will give people beyond the confines of the hospital wards a flavour of what we do.

 

24 November: We're on Twitter!

Radio Sunderland today announces the launch of their Twitter feed. Please search for @radiosunderland and start following us! We can keep you up to date with our latest fundraising activities and let you know when programmes are about to start.

 

19 October: Fundraising at Morrisons, Seaburn.

Once again we spent the day with our display stands and collecting buckets at Morrisons, Seaburn and despite the rain (again - see 18th May) you helped us raise a magnificent  £411. Many thanks to everyone that donated and to the management and staff at the store for being so helpful.

 

7 October: Exciting news about Radio Sunderland!

We've got some exciting news to tell you about what's happening at Radio Sunderland in December - besides Christmas of course! We're just finalising things so check back soon for the full announcement!

 

31 August: Fundraising (and more) at the new Tesco Extra!

Another great day in prospect at the new Tesco Extra store in Monkwearmouth - with our collecting buckets and display stand and once again we'll have our equipment to play some cracking tunes! The day will culminate in a live broadcast from the store to the our patients.

We will also be there to collect a cheque for  £5,000 from the manager, Tim Howell, on behalf of Tesco. This is a fantastic donation and has been earmarked for several great projects - watch this space!

UPDATE: Our bucket collection raised  £153 today and we met some great people - many thanks for all your support and of course a HUGE thanks to TESCO for having us in the store and for the amazing donation of  £5,000.

 

29 & 30 June 2013: Fundraising at Tesco, Monkwearmouth.

The brand new Tesco Extra store opened this week and we've been invited along for its first weekend! We'll be there with our collecting buckets and information stand so you can find out all about Radio Sunderland.

On Sunday we'll also have our PA system and we'll be playing a great selection of hits, old and new!

UPDATE: It was great to be at Tesco's new Sunderland store for the opening weekend and, thanks to your generosity, we raised  £471. A big thank you to everyone that contributed and to the staff and management at the new store for having us!

 

18 May 2013: Fundraising at Morrisons, Seaburn.

Back to Morrisons, Seaburn for the first time since our successful Christmas collection. Come along and say hello from 10am!

UPDATE: Despite the truly appalling weather, it proved to be another great collection with lots of generous people helping us raise  £352, many thanks!

 

16 February 2013: Fundraising at Sainsbury's, Silksworth.

We're out and about with our collecting buckets raising funds to keep Radio Sunderland on the air! We're also bringing our display so you can find out all about Hospital Radio and how you could get involved.

UPDATE: Another great day collecting! Many thanks to everyone that donated and thanks to the management and staff at Sainsbury's for having us. We raised  £368.

 

12 February 2013: Radio Player updated.

If you're listening online right now, then you'll have seen our new and improved Radio Player. It has a lean and clean look and provides more information about what's playing and which programme's are on now and next. It also provides a full programme schedule and a contact form. It doesn't use flash so it should work on all your devices!
