16 December 2012: Fundraising at Morrisons, Seaburn.

Our last store collection of the year! We'll be playing lots of Christmas music to get you in the mood as we raise funds to keep Radio Sunderland broadcasting - come and say hello!

UPDATE: An absolutely fantastic day was had by all, many thanks for those people that stopped to chat as well as give very generously. We raised an amazing £564, thank you very much and Merry Christmas from all at Radio Sunderland!

9 December 2012: Light Up A Life Carol Service.

We have the privilege of providing the PA facilities once again for this annual service of remembrance and celebration at St Benedict's Hospice. All are welcome and the service starts at 4pm.

2 December 2012: Fundraising at ASDA, Leechmere.

Between 10am and 4pm we will be at ASDA with our information display and collecting buckets. You'll be able to find out all about Radio Sunderland, including how you can get involved!

We'll also be playing some great music as you enter the store to hopefully get your toes tapping!

UPDATE: We had a great day at ASDA, raising £242! A big thank you to everyone that said hello and donated. Thanks also to the management and staff at the store for being so helpful.

28 October 2012: Fundraising at ASDA, Washington.

We're off to ASDA at the Galleries in Washington this Sunday between 10am and 3pm. We'll have the usual display stand out so you can find out all about Radio Sunderland!

Come along to say hello, or to find out more and of course, to drop your spare coins into our collecting buckets!

UPDATE: Many thanks to the customers at ASDA for helping us raise £129 and thanks also to the management and staff for having us.

21 July 2012: Fundraising at Sainsbury's Silksworth.

Another store collection, raising funds to keep us on the air. Come along on Saturday 21st July between 10am - 4pm when we will be at Sainsbury's Silksworth. Meet some of our volunteers and see our display which tells you all about Radio Sunderland including how you can get involved - no experience required!

UPDATE: Despite it being a relatively quiet day due to the Sunderland Airshow and the lovely weather (at last!), everyone proved to be extremely generous, helping us raise an impressive £325. Many thanks to everyone that contributed and to the management and staff of Sainsbury's.

30 June 2012: Fundraising at Morrisons Seaburn.

Another fundraising store collection but this time with music! On Saturday 30th June between 9am - 5pm we will be at Morrisons Seaburn. Come and say hello and see our display which tells you all about Radio Sunderland. We will be also playing some great music to get your toes tapping as you do your shopping!

UPDATE: Thank you for your kind comments - we had a lot of compliments on the music we played today! We have to say a big big thank you to you for being so generous, we raised £425. Many thanks also to the management and staff for making us feel so welcome and for asking us back later in the year!

21 April 2012: Fundraising at Morrisons Doxford Park.

We will be shaking our collecting buckets once again on Saturday 21st April between 10am - 4pm at Morrisons Doxford Park. Come along, meet the team and say hello as we collect funds to help keep us on the air! You can find out all about Radio Sunderland from our little display and perhaps get involved yourself!

UPDATE: Many thanks to everyone that visited our stand and donated, helping us raise £217, we'd also like to say a big thank you to the management and staff of Morrisons.

12 April 2012: Old shows now on Mixcloud.

From today we are starting to make available some of our old shows in their entirety, not just the talkie bits but all the music as well! This is possible because we are using the Mixcloud service, which means we don't have to pay the copyright fees normally associated with re-broadcast material.

We hope to add more material in due course but for starters, you can listen to "MyTunes" with Frankie from Frankie & The Heartstrings

30 March 2012: Launch of our Online Stream!

After almost sixty years broadcasting solely to the patients of Sunderland's hospitals, Radio Sunderland begins streaming it's output on the World Wide Web! Now almost anyone can experience the unique sound of Radio Sunderland for Hospitals!

We decided to make our service available online after increasingly being asked by friends and family of patients if they could also listen along to our programmes - especially the popular patients request show "Ward Call". Click here to listen!

25 February 2012: Fundraising at Sainsbury's Silksworth

Sainsbury's have very kindly agreed to let us carry out a store collection on Saturday 25th February between 10am - 4pm. Come along and meet the team as we collect funds to help keep us broadcasting, you can also find out more about hospital radio and perhaps get involved yourself!

UPDATE: Many thanks to all the customers that gave so generously, helping us raise £415. We must also say a big, big thank you to the management and staff at Sainsbury's for making us feel so welcome.

17 September 2011: Equipment Sale on

Starting today on eBay, we have begun to list some of the obsolete, broken and surplus equipment that we have in our studios.

Over the coming months we hope to auction off as much as we can with the aim of raising funds to upgrade radio studio 2.

Most of the equipment auctioned will be audio and computer parts, so if you are involved with hospital, community or schools radio then check often and save us as a favourite seller to make sure you don't miss any bargains!

We have also registered as a Direct Charity Seller with PayPal, this means that we don't pay eBay fees and so maximises our fundraising.

JustTextGiving is a fantastic new service from Vodafone whereby anyone with a mobile phone can donate to charity by text!

You don't even need to be a Vodafone customer to donate and there is no cost to the charity.

All sorts of Registered Charities are signing up for this great new service and Radio Sunderland is one of the first in our area! Click here for more details.

22 November 2010: Radio Sunderland on 87.7FM

From Friday 10th December you won't have to be in hospital to enjoy Radio Sunderland! We have obtained a special licence from Ofcom to enable us to broadcast on 87.7FM for ten days only, giving everyone a chance to listen to the unique sound of Radio Sunderland! 22 November 2010: Make an online donation!

Now you can support Radio Sunderland from the comfort of your own computer by making a safe, online donation through Charity Giving. What's more, if you're a UK taxpayer we can claim Gift Aid to maximise your donation.

24 August 2010: Lottery Award

Fantastic news today as The Big Lottery Fund awards Radio Sunderland £10,000 towards a refit and update of our main studio. Work will begin in September to install new equipment that will make operating the studio easier, creating new programme making opportunities for more of our members - both present and future!

1 June 2009: Radio Sunderland blog's launched

Radio Sunderland launches a new mini-site dedicated to bogging. Here you'll be able to read the thoughts and opinions of some of the members of Radio Sunderland for Hospitals and what's more, you'll be able to post your own comments if you disagree.

20 April 2009: New website launched

April sees the launch of our completely rebuilt website with cleaner lines, a new logo and more content. If you would like to comment on our new site or if you find any errors, please do get in touch.
